Women often develop growths in their ovaries which are popularly known as "cysts". Ruptured ovarian cysts can also cause pain
Ovarian cysts often rupture, burst or bleed. They can also get twisted or cause the fallopian tube to become twisted, giving rise to excruciating pain in the pelvic area. Instead of the short stabbing pain, it may take the form of dull unvarying ache going on for days together. Though some women may mistakenly attribute their abdominal pain to menstruating tenderness, the pain associated with ovarian cyst bursting is far more agonizing in nature to be ignored.
Ovarian cystic pain may originate from one side or both sides of the lower abdomen
Since females are provided with ovaries on both sides of the abdomen, pain may originate from both the areas. But in reality, such incidents are rare and uncommon. Nevertheless, when pain is felt on both sides of the abdomen at the same instant, chances are that both the ovaries have been affected by cysts.
Ovarian cysts may cause pain after sexual activity
Pain from ovarian cyst is also linked with pelvic tenderness during sexual intercourse. Clinically called dyspareunia, the pain can occur during or soon after a sexual intercourse and may persist for sometime thereafter.
Ovarian cysts may give rise to painful menstrual period
Shortly after beginning or ending of the menstrual period, pain occurs in the pelvic region due to the presence of ovarian cysts there. Proper investigations are required to disassociate the discomfort from painful bowel movement, yet another manifestation of cysts in the system.
